Since its opening in mid-September, “French Taste” at Alexis Bordes has welcomed visitors into a refined journey through French painting from the 17th to the 19th century. The exhibition continues to draw interest for its exceptional selection of unpublished works that celebrate elegance, psychological depth, and poetic resonance across centuries.
Highlights include Jacques Stella’s tender Virgin and Child on copper, Louis Ferdinand Elle’s incisive portrait of Chancellor Michel Le Tellier, and Jacques-Samuel Bernard’s contemplative still life. Nicolas de Largillierre is honored with two portraits, including that of Marie-Adélaïde of Savoy from the royal collections of Louis-Philippe.
Italian vistas and classical reveries appear in works by Paolo Anesi and Giovanni Paolo Panini, while Nicolas Lancret’s gallant scene evokes Watteau’s vaporous lyricism. Jean-Marc Nattier’s rediscovered portrait of a lady in a blue cape, Paul Gavarni’s melancholic rendering of young Victor Hugo, and Jacques-Émile Blanche’s rare landscape round out this rich visual harvest.
The exhibition remains on view at the gallery. We invite you to discover this celebration of French taste and artistic finesse.
In addition to this main presentation, two independent exhibitions are currently on view in adjoining rooms:
Francesca Pagliari Fine Art presents a selection of Italian and French paintings and drawings spanning the 16th to 19th centuries.
Ulrike Christina Goetz Art Advisory showcases bronze and terracotta medals by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux and Pierre-Jean David d’Angers, featuring notable figures of the 19th century.
Each gallery offers its own distinct curatorial voice, enriching the visit with complementary perspectives.
