Folio. 40 hand-colored engraved maps (i.e., 39 double-page maps, one folding map, and the additional double-page map of New Jersey) ; hand-colored engraved title and [8] pages of text, including a table of charts.

The chart “Het Canaal tusschen Engeland en Vrancriick” is wanting.

Original blind-stamped vellum binding ; attractive ORIGINAL HAND-COLOR in outline with cartouches, windroses and decoration in full orginal color ; internally some usual minor toning of the paper. The charts are printed on ply-paper. Generally good.

Notes:

The present example contains 40 charts, the extra chart being the ‘Paskaerte van de Zuydten Noordt Revier in Nieu Nederlant. Larger than the other charts in the atlases, Burden states that it was probably published separately, and included as a supplement upon request”. The finely engraved chart details the East Coast of America from New Amsterdam (New York) to the Delaware River.
The rare French text edition of Goos’ important sea atlas. The well-made pilot guide and the beautiful sea atlas reflect a high professional stand of Pieter Goos’ work. Goos’ Sea atlas was copied by John Seller in 1670.
